About Us

Adding More Colors To Our Stories

BC Minorities for Film and TV is a non-profit based organization that focuses on empowering minorities, by bridging the gap through creating equal opportunities.

By ‘minorities’ we mean all genders from all visible minority groups. including racial; ethnic; disabilities and refugees etc. Unlike many organizations, our mission is not limited to one specific identity or culture. We aim to uplift any minority, from ethnic groups and racialized people to LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities, from Indigenous Peoples to refugees and immigrants.

Canadian diversity is not reflected in our media. In a recent study by McGill University, a cultural analysis they found that white actors are three times more likely to be represented in film, and . The study also found that white actors are 111 times more likely to get a lead role. When it comes to behind- the- scenes the lack of representation of minorities is even more visible notable - (CBC news).

Unlike most organizations, our mission is not limited to a specific group. We support any visible minority from Disabilities, LGBTQ+ to ethnic groups, first nations and immigrants.

As Canadians, diversity is our strength. Let’s strengthen our film community.

Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having your voice heard.
Reflecting Canada's Rich Cultural Tapestry

We recognize the land we work on as the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Stó:lō, Səl̓ílwətaʔ, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm Nations. In this spirit of respect and collaboration, we invite all members of the film and TV industry to join us in creating a more inclusive and vibrant artistic community.
